Thimble Review 2026
The cheapest thing Thimble sells is an hour of cover. A phone call is not for sale. Its help center says that is on purpose.

How We Tested Thimble
We ran Thimble's General Liability quote flow end to end, monthly and hourly, and pulled a Certificate of Insurance. We logged every add on screen. On 4 September 2026 we re-read the pricing pages, the help center articles on cancelling and claims, and all 2,370 Trustpilot reviews by score. Prices on this page are Thimble's own published figures.
Thimble Overview
What Thimble Is
Thimble is a managing general agent, an MGA. It sells cover. It does not carry the risk. General Liability policies are underwritten by Markel Insurance Company and National Specialty Insurance Company. The legal entity is Verifly Insurance Services, LLC, a New York company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Arch Insurance Group. Its footer lists California producer licence 0K91562. Thimble started as Verifly, a drone insurer, before the rebrand.
How Quoting Works
Everything happens online. You enter a ZIP code and a profession. You pick an hour, a day, a month or a year. Thimble prices it on the spot. Our monthly quote took under 60 seconds. Pay, and the certificate downloads at once. Nobody calls you.
Coverage Types Available
Thimble's menu lists 8 lines. General Liability, Professional Liability, Business Equipment Protection, Workers' Compensation, a Business Owner's Policy, Cyber, Special Event and, new since our last read, Commercial Auto. General Liability limits run to $1 million or more. Deductibles run from $0 to $1,000. Thimble's own footer says products are subject to state and class availability, so run the quote before you plan on a line.
Who It Is Built For
Solo operators who need proof of insurance today. Event vendors, photographers, handymen, DJs. Contractors bidding a 2 day job. The hourly and daily options fit people who work a few gigs a month. A team with vehicles or complex risk should quote elsewhere too. Thimble lists commercial auto in its menu now, we did not test it.

Thimble Pros and Cons
Pros
- Cover by the hour, day or month. You can insure a single Saturday market instead of buying a month you will not use.
- Unlimited Certificates of Insurance at no charge, with additional insureds added from the dashboard. Thimble's own page promises unlimited copies.
- Our monthly quote took under 60 seconds and the certificate was ready at payment. The speed claim holds.
- Backed by A rated carriers, Markel and National Specialty, under Arch Insurance Group. The MGA is small, the paper behind it is not.
Cons
- No phone support, on purpose. Thimble's help center says so. Everything is email or a support ticket.
- Claims are handled by Markel, Sedgwick or Reserv, not Thimble. The help center tells you to email [email protected] if that goes wrong.
- The refund on an annual policy is shown only after you press Cancel Policy. Thimble publishes no formula for it.
- Professional Liability starts at $36 a month on its own, more than double the $17 General Liability floor, and the quote flow keeps offering it.
Upsell Pressure & Hidden Fees
Transparency Check, We Documented Every Upsell
The quote flow is fast and it keeps nudging. Professional Liability sits next to General Liability as a paired cover, and Thimble's own page says it often bundles the two. Professional Liability starts at $36 a month by itself, so pairing it more than triples the $17 floor. Nothing was pre checked in our test. Business Equipment Protection is folded into monthly plans in some states without a separate opt in. Workers' Comp and a Business Owner's Policy appear as upgrades. A first time buyer could read the E&O prompt as a requirement. It is not.

What Real Customers Say
Reddit / Community Sentiment
We did not re-read Reddit threads this run, so we will not quote them. The measured signal is Trustpilot, 4.2 from 2,370 reviews on 4 September 2026. The split there is the one Thimble's help center predicts. Buying and certificates are praised. Support and claims are where the 1 star reviews live.
Is Thimble Right for You?
Best For These Founders
Event Vendors and Exhibitors
You need a certificate for one weekend festival and the organiser wants it by Friday. A day of cover costs less than a month.
Side Hustlers and Gig Workers
You work 2 or 3 jobs a month and do not want a $504 a year policy sitting idle.
Independent Contractors
You already run the business from your phone and never want to ring an agent. Thimble's app issues the certificate in 1 step.
Consider Alternatives If…
You want a phone number. Thimble does not publish one and says so in its help center.
You need an umbrella policy or custom endorsements. Thimble's 8 lines do not include them.
You have staff and vehicles and want 1 agent who knows the whole account.
The Quote Process Is As Fast As Advertised
We ran the General Liability flow for a freelance photographer in Brooklyn. ZIP code, profession from a dropdown, monthly cover. The quote was on screen in about 45 seconds. It showed the deductible, the limits and the premium. No phone number, no Social Security number. Binding took 15 seconds more. The certificate downloaded at once.
That speed is the product. If a venue emails at 9 AM asking for proof by 2 PM, Thimble gets you there. Our business insurance guide explains what a certificate does and does not prove.
What Thimble Publishes On Price
Thimble prints 3 numbers on its General Liability page. Policies start at $17 a month. The average customer pays $42 a month, or $504 a year. Limits run to $1 million or more and deductibles from $0 to $1,000. The hourly and daily options carry no published rate at all. You get that price at quote.

Professional Liability is priced on a separate page. It starts at $36 a month. Thimble puts the average there at $45 a month, or $500 a year. So a photographer who takes both lines is looking at a $53 a month floor, not $17. Thimble does not publish a combined figure, that sum is ours.
| Line | Starts at | Thimble's stated average |
|---|---|---|
| General Liability | $17 a month | $42 a month, $504 a year |
| Professional Liability | $36 a month | $45 a month, $500 a year |
| Hourly or daily cover | No published rate | Shown at quote only |
Certificates Are The Strongest Feature
After you bind, certificates are unlimited. They are free. Thimble's page promises unlimited copies with a click. You add additional insureds and certificate holders from the dashboard. For a vendor who shows proof to a new venue every month, this alone can justify the choice.
Claims And Support Are The Weak Spot
Thimble does not handle claims. Its help center says General Liability claims go to Markel, Sedgwick or Reserv. If the process stalls, the advice is to email [email protected]. There is no phone number. A separate help article titled Why doesn't Thimble have a customer support phone number listed answers that online support keeps prices low. Readers rated that answer helpful 17 times out of 270.
That is a trade, not a bug. You pay $17 a month partly because nobody is staffing a phone line. Decide before you buy whether you can live with that on the day a claim goes wrong. Thimble publishes no claim resolution times, so we cannot score them.
How Thimble Compares
Thimble reports a $504 a year General Liability average. Its edge is the unit of sale. An hour, or a day. ERGO NEXT is the closer match for year round cover with a team. Hiscox is the older name for professional liability. CoverWallet is a broker that quotes several carriers at once. The table below this section pulls each provider's current starting price from its own row.
Cancelling An Annual Policy
Monthly and on demand policies cancel any time, including mid term. Thimble's help center says so in 1 line. Annual policies are different. The refund on a policy that has already started is shown only after you press Cancel Policy and before you confirm. Thimble publishes no formula. A pre booked policy that has not started refunds in full.
So the rule is simple. If you are not sure you need 12 months, buy the month. The monthly rate is higher, and the exit is clean.

CoverWallet $39 3.2 | $39 | $468 | 3.2 | Comparing business insurance quotes online |
Final Verdict
Thimble is the fastest route we have tested to a General Liability certificate. Under 60 seconds to a bindable quote. Then a download. It also sells cover by the hour, which is rare. The price of that convenience is a company with no phone number and claims handled 3 firms away. Trustpilot has it at 4.2 from 2,370 reviews. Buy it for a gig or a season. For a business with staff and vehicles, start with NEXT.
