Only three states force LLCs to publish in newspapers. New York is one. You publish in one daily and one weekly paper in your LLC's county, within 120 days of filing. Then you file a $50 Certificate of Publication. Skip it and Section 206 suspends your right to do business. Filing late cures it. But the suspension surfaces at the worst times, like a loan application or a lawsuit.

2. File a Certificate of Publication with the Department of State. The fee is $50. Attach both affidavits. Your LLC is not fully compliant until this is filed.
3. Draft a written operating agreement. New York law requires one. You keep it on record, not with the state. It governs member rights, profits, and management.
4. Get an EIN from the IRS. It is free. It takes about 5 minutes at irs.gov. Banks, hiring, and taxes all need it.
5. File your Biennial Statement every two years. It costs $9. It is due in the calendar month you originally filed. Miss it and your LLC falls out of good standing.
6. Skip the BOI report. FinCEN exempted every US-formed company in March 2025. A final rule made that permanent on 14 August 2026. A domestic New York LLC files nothing.
