Arizona's headline grant reopens on September 14. The Innovation Challenge runs two weeks, pays a minimum of $50,000 and takes no equity. This round wants SaaS companies already billing $5,000 a month. The FAST Grant follows on September 24 with six awards of up to $3,000 for SBIR proposal work. Exporters can use AZ STEP any day of the year, and a semiconductor startup can put up to $75,000 of ASU laboratory time on the state's tab through the Advanced Manufacturing Facilities match. Firms with five or fewer staff borrow $2,000 to $50,000 from the state Microbusiness Loan Program, which is a loan and not a grant.

Arizona Commerce Authority

Fall 2026 round opens September 14, closes September 28

Arizona's largest state business award pays a minimum of $50,000 in non dilutive funding to up to ten startups a round, released after three months of milestones with an ACA Entrepreneur in Residence. Semifinalists who lose still get a place on Venture Raise, a twelve week accelerator, which is worth more than the win rate suggests.

Arizona Microbusiness Loan Program

Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity

$2,000 to $50,000 (loan)

Rolling

Technology/Innovation Business Grants

Tech startups have the most choices here and two of them open this month. The Arizona Innovation Challenge awards $50,000 or more and takes no equity, opening September 14 and closing September 28, though this round is SaaS only and wants $5,000 to $50,000 of monthly recurring revenue already. The FAST Grant follows on September 24 with six awards of up to $3,000 for SBIR and STTR prep. A semiconductor or hard materials startup can also match up to $75,000 of ASU Core Facility time, which pays an equipment bill rather than reaching a bank account.

Rural Business Grants

Rural firms get advisers and credit rather than grants. The SSBCI technical assistance programme targets underserved and very small businesses, and gives free legal, accounting and financial advisory help toward a loan or a raise. Microbusinesses statewide borrow $2,000 to $50,000 through the state Microbusiness Loan Program. The Arizona Competes Fund sets aside a share for tribal lands and counties outside Maricopa, but it has no application form, so it is not a door a founder can knock on.

Minority-owned Business Grants

Underserved small business owners can use the Arizona SSBCI technical assistance programme, which supplies advisers rather than cash and is aimed at getting a business bankable. The federal MBDA also runs programs for minority owned businesses.

Tips for Applying in Arizona

Increase your chances of approval with these state-specific tips.

  • 1Ensure your business is in good standing with the Arizona Corporation Commission before applying to any ACA program. This is a requirement for grant recipients.
  • 2The Innovation Challenge gate is narrower than the headline. Fall 2026 takes SaaS companies only, incorporated after August 2023, with a working product, paying customers and monthly recurring revenue between $5,000 and $50,000.
  • 3Use the free Arizona SBDC Network advisors at one of 10 community college centers statewide to review your application and business plan before submitting.
  • 4Both ACA windows are short. The Innovation Challenge is open September 14 to September 28 and the FAST Grant September 24 to October 19, so a fortnight of drift costs you the round. The FAST spring window runs March 1 to March 19, 2027.
  • 5Losing the Innovation Challenge is not the end of it. Semifinalists and finalists who are not selected are placed on Venture Raise, a twelve week accelerator, so the expected value of applying is higher than the ten awards suggest.

State Economic Development Agency

Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA)

The Arizona Commerce Authority is the state's leading economic development organization, providing grants, incentives, and business support programs to attract, expand, and create businesses in Arizona.

Funding While You Wait

Grant applications in Arizona can take weeks or months to process. These options can bridge the gap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Three, and two more open this month. AZ STEP reimburses export costs all year, the Advanced Manufacturing Facilities grant matches up to $75,000 of ASU laboratory time first come first served, and the SSBCI technical assistance programme supplies free advisers rather than money. The Innovation Challenge opens on September 14 and shuts on September 28. The FAST Grant opens on September 24 and shuts on October 19.

Yes, with one exception worth knowing. The Advanced Manufacturing Facilities grant accepts a corporation, an LLC or a partnership and excludes sole proprietors, so the entity you file matters there. The Innovation Challenge sets no entity rule but does set a revenue rule, $5,000 to $50,000 of monthly recurring revenue in the current round. The state Microbusiness Loan Program lends to any Arizona business with five or fewer employees, and that money is repayable.

A minimum of $50,000, non dilutive, to up to ten startups a round. It does not land as a cheque on day one. Awardees work three months of milestones with an Arizona Commerce Authority Entrepreneur in Residence and the money is released against that work. Semifinalists and finalists who are not selected are placed on Venture Raise, a twelve week accelerator, which is an unusual consolation and makes applying worth more than the headline odds.

No. It is real money and it is active, but there is no application form, no window and no programme page. The Commerce Authority negotiates each award directly with a large employer moving to or expanding in Arizona. In the January to March 2026 quarter it committed $6 million in two awards, $5 million to Amkor Technology and $1 million to Northrop Grumman. We list it because people search for it by name, and we say plainly that a founder cannot pursue it.

Most of what is genuinely open. The Microbusiness Loan Program lends $2,000 to $50,000 to firms with five or fewer employees through regional CDFI and nonprofit partners, and two counties still lack a dedicated partner, so a Maricopa applicant goes through Growth Partners Arizona and a Pinal applicant through CIC or Groundswell Capital. SSBCI also runs loan guarantees through eleven partner lenders and two equity programmes. None of that is grant money, and all of it has to be paid back or priced in equity.
